SUGESTED ITINERARIES
Southern
Transylvania
2 Days — Starting from Bucharest
Day 1
From Bucharest (or Otopeni Airport), head north toward
Brasov. Stop at the mountain resort of Sinaia to visit
Peles Castle and Pelisor Castle. (Note: Peles and
Pelisor castles are closed on Monday and Tuesday.)
Continue to Brasov for a stroll around its medieval
section. Highlights include: Black Church, The Old
Town-Hall Square, Brasov Fortress, Franciscan Monastery.
Overnight in Brasov. The nearby mountain resorts of
Predeal or Poiana Brasov have great hotels, which
are less expensive than those in Brasov.
Day 2
Morning sightseeing & shopping in Brasov. Head to
Bran (via Rasnov), 17 miles southwest of Brasov. Visit
Bran (Dracula's) Castle. (Note: Bran Castle is
closed on Monday.) If traveling by car (and time
allows) see first the fortified churches at nearby
Harman and Prejmer than drive to Bran and than to
Bucharest via Paraul Rece - Predeal - Sinaia. Spend
the rest of the afternoon strolling along Calea Victoriei
(from Piata Victoriei to Splaiul Independentei) and
end the evening at Count Dracula Club (dinner).
Note: The above itinerary can be done by car or
by train except the visit at the Bran Castle which
is only accessible by car - taxi from Predeal - /
bus or taxi from Brasov.
Bucharest and Southern
Transylvania
3 Day — Starting from Bucharest
Day 1
From downtown Bucharest (or Otopeni Airport), head
north toward Brasov, (via Ploiesti - Sinaia - Predeal).
If interested in clocks stop in Ploiesti and visit
the Clock Museum (Muzeul Ceasului). This stop will
ad about three hours to your journey to Brasov. Stop
at the mountain resort of Sinaia to visit Peles Castle
and Pelisor Castle. (Note: Peles and Pelisor castles
are closed on Monday and Tuesday.) Continue to
Brasov for a stroll around its medieval section. Highlights
include: Black Church, The Old Town-Hall Square, Brasov
Fortress, Franciscan Monastery. Overnight in Brasov.

Day 2
Visit Bran (Dracula's) Castle, 17 miles southwest

If traveling by car (and time allows) see first the

Bran drive over the Carpathian Mountains (Bran - Rucar
Pass) to Curtea de Arges to visit its impressive 16th
century Curtea de Arges Monastery (Manastirea Curtea
de Arges) and the fresco-filled 14th century Princely
Court (Curtea Domneasca).
(Travel from Bran to Curtea de Arges is only possible
by car or by bus.) Overnight at Posada hotel (two
stars).

Spend a night in a private farm and enjoy homemade
cheeses and grilled lamb pastrami.
Day 3
Return to Bucharest via the highway from Pitesti.

Return to Bucharest via Paraul Rece - Predeal - Sinaia
- Ploiesti. Before entering downtown Bucharest stop
at the Village Museum (Muzeul Satului, near Piata
Presei Libere) or at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant
(Muzeul Taranului Roman near Piata Victoriei). Spend
the rest of the day exploring Bucharest, strolling
along Calea Victoriei to Piata Revolutiei, site of
the Romanian Athenaeum and the former Royal Palace,
now National Museum of Art. End the evening at Count
Dracula Club (dinner).

3 Days — Starting from Bucharest
Day 1

Day 2
Day trip to Sighisoara, one of the best-preserved
medieval towns in Europe, and site of the future Dracula
Park. Highlights include: Clock Tower, Defending Walls
Guild Tower, Venetian House, Antler House, Wooden
Covered Staircase, Hill Church, Hermann Oberth Square.
Return to Brasov (Predeal or Poiana Brasov).
Day 3
Sightseeing in Brasov. Return to Bucharest via Predeal
- Sinaia - Ploiesti. Before entering downtown Bucharest

Day 1
Sightseeing in Brasov, in the morning. Take an afternoon
train to Sighisoara. Overninght in Sighisoara. For
those driving to Sighisoara: stop in Saschiz and visit
the Saxon Fortified Church and Tower. Overnight at
the new Europa Hotel in Albesti (3 stars) located
4 miles from downtown Sighisoara.
Day 2
Sightseeing in Sighisoara. Highlights include: Clock
Tower, Defending Walls Guild Tower, Venetian House,
Antler House, Wooden Covered Staircase, Hill Church,
Hermann Oberth Square. Spend the evening in Sighisoara
or take the bus / drive to Sibiu. En route visit the
Fortified Saxon Church in Biertan.
Day 3
Sightseeing in Sibiu. Highlights include: Craftsmen's
Square, Huet Square and Evangelical Church, Bridge
of Lies, Goldsmith Square, Great Square, Orthodox
Cathedral, Roman Catholic Church, City Hall Tower.
Take an afternoon train/ drive to Brasov or to Bucharest.
Note: travel from Sighisoara to Sibiu by bus or
by car. There is no direct train service from Sighisoara
to Sibiu and the connections are bad.
